RTITB Forklift Truck Instructor Course

The RTITB forktruck instructor course is a 10 day course for initial instructors.

The instructor course is carried out at our academy in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire by Steve Lake or Colin Frost. Both Steve and Colin have delivered many instructor courses in the Cambridgeshire area over a 15 year period and still counting.

Over the 10 days, you will practice writing and delivering classroom lessons to ensure that your future candidates are not only safe operators but also have a sound knowledge of the safety aspects of operating a forklift truck.

At the end of the 10 days, an RTITB examiner will play the part of a candidate that is part way through their fork truck training and you have to teach them a lesson that has been picked by the governing body.  You will receive your lesson the day before, giving you ample time to prepare and practice your lesson.  You will also be expected to pass a theory test which is multiple choice, this is based on both the instructional techniques and operational procedures of driving a forklift truck.

By the end of the course, you will have a sound knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation such as:

  • Provision and Use at Work Regulations 1998
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations
  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • HSG6
  • L117

5 Day RTITB Instructor Refresher Course

The 5-day RTITB fork truck instructor refresher course is aimed at instructors who have already passed the RTITB 10 day fork truck instructor course and need to re-register.

The course content is the same as the 10-day course but as you will have had experience delivering the courses in a real-life situation, you should only need to be refreshed in lesson writing and delivery.

You will still be expected to pass a practical test to show your own driving skills are still up to the relevant standard of 25 points or less.  On the 4th day of your course, you will be given your lesson that has been selected by the RTITB for you to perform to the examiner on the 5th day.

Once you have passed you will be invited to join the RTITB instructor/Examiner national registration scheme for another 5 years.

Who should attend?

Anyone attending this course must have an accredited forktruck certificate for the machine that will be used for the instructor training course, this is usually a counterbalance.

If you have any learning or language difficulties you can still attend the course however you will need to make this known at the time of booking and then we can discuss the best method of training for you.

Both of our instructors have been in the industry for a minimum of 10 years. We pride ourselves on our professional standards and also delivering top quality training courses.  Having worked in some of the largest training establishments in the UK and Cambridgeshire we have seen that many people teach you to pass a test.  We do this but we also teach you how to instruct in the real world once you have passed your test.  This is very important as the real world can be a lonely place for an instructor but when you pass with us you have the confidence that we will always be at the end of an email or phone to help you become the instructor you want to be.
