Why have we decided to do this?

This has not been made by the current situation we all find ourselves in, it is something we have been planning for a while; however, lockdown restrictions have moved these plans up the pecking order.

For a while now we have been running classroom attendance sessions and people are always asking for a course outside of the working day, they are working within the transport industry; they find it very hard to leave the office and concentrate on their course for a set period. As a small business we also appreciate the strain it can have on a company to lose just one member of staff from the team. It was for these reasons we have developed the idea of remote training sessions.

Why use remote training when you can do online training?

We are not saying online training is rubbish or does not work, in fact, we offer many online courses, however, we also believe that some courses do not suit online or non-face to face delivery. The Management CPC course has always had the option to home study, probably since before the internet was invented, our years of experience have shown, people who home study tend to struggle with the commitment required to complete the course; there is nobody pushing you or you have no commitment to sit down and talk to somebody at a set time.  This tends to mean the course does not get completed properly and leads to students cramming all the work into a few days rather than the weeks that are required.  Another disadvantage to online training is the lack of someone to ask questions when you are struggling.  Lots of people who do this course come from a transport background and have a lot of knowledge and a lot of contacts to talk to and ask advice.  To coin a phrase the ‘real world’ advice is invaluable once you have passed the exam, this same advice can also be detrimental to the exam.

An example of this could be:

How many days does a driver have to download their tachograph card?

The real-world advice would probably be weekly or daily; the exam answer would possibly be 28 days.  The reason I say possibly is due to the case study, which is one of your exams at the end of the course.  If the case study instructed that you are to download your card in line with legal maximums, 28 days would be correct, however, if the case study said the card must be downloaded every 14 days then daily, weekly and 28 days would be wrong.  This is what your instructor gives you and where they earn their money, we will only tell you what the law requires, and we will also teach you exam technique, something that is extremely hard to do when it is not face to face. All our instructors will hold the relevant qualification for the subject they teach, this may be road haulage or passenger carrying.  This means that not only have they studied the course they have also passed the exams; these same instructors are also transport consultants and carry out transport audits.  This gives them a lot of experience of different working environments and procedures that can help the attendees retain information. Again, this is not available when carrying out a conventional online training course.

Who should attend?

This course is suitable for anybody who either works or wishes to work in the transport sector as a Transport Manager.  This course is more than just transport, we often say it is a business course that is based on transport. The course is a level 3, which basically means it is the equivalent of an A level.  A good grasp of the English language is essential, a good knowledge of maths is also required.  Experience is not necessary; it can be a help but also a hinderance as mentioned above.

How is training conducted?

As mentioned before the training will be conducted over Zoom one evening per week.  Before the training commences you will be sent a set of study notes which are yours to highlight and read through., you will also be sent a timetable. We would ask, if possible, that you read through the notes and then we will cover each section and answer any questions on each evening that we train.  The study notes will have multiple choice question papers and practice case studies, we will set you homework tasks, the same as we do in a classroom situation.  It is your choice how much you do or do not do, however, for the best results we would recommend you do all that is asked of you.  We will be able to show you how to access past test papers with the examiner’s report so that you can see how the case study works and is marked.  Your instructors will also help by talking you through the marking of a paper.  Knowledge is key to passing the exam but if you do not have exam technique, then the even with correct knowledge it will be difficult to pass.  The notes that you make, and your course notes will be allowed to go into the case study exam with you but not the multiple-choice exam.

Where are we based?

We are based in Peterborough and that is where our exam centre is, although you may sit this exam at any exam centre in the UK.  We will be able to help you find an exam centre close to you, which means that we can now offer this training UK wide. When we quote your price for the course the exam fees will be based on taking the exams in Peterborough. Other centres may charge a sitting fee.

What if I have trained somewhere else but need training on certain modules?

We will allow anybody to attend the full training course or certain days of the course if a full course is not required, this is irrelevant of where you sat your original training course.

The biggest question of them all. What is the pass rate?

It is a great question and one that is very rarely advertised truthfully. We could advertise 100% pass rate, as everyone passes eventually but to our knowledge there is not a training centre out there that has had more than 20 people through the doors, with a 100% genuine first-time pass rate on both exams.  Nationally the pass rate for the case study fluctuates between 40 and 50%, therefore, the instructor is so important during this course.  We believe in honesty and being honest we do not track our pass rate. At a guess I would say we would be around the 75 to 80% first time, both test pass rate, this is a guess but an educated one.  If we are being honest it is irrelevant anyway, it is not about what other people have done; it is about what you do.  Those that have the greatest success are those who can put the most effort in.
